My new logo!

This is my new logo. It's based on the idea behind the name Magical Sheep Productions, which is that when we go to sleep and we are counting sheep it is the sheep who leads us into a magical world of imagination across the fence.

Just Add Water

Just Add Water is a small independent game developer based in Otley, West Yorkshire. It was founded by Stewart Gilray in 2006 and has worked on a few different titles, notably the Oddworld series. I came across Just Add Water when I noticed that there was a new Oddworld game in production for the Wii U. I was very excited to hear about the 2.5D HD re-make of Abe’s Oddysee, Oddwolrd: New ‘n’ Tasty, and even more excited to hear that the halted Oddworld Quintology was now once again a possibility.

Unfortunately the company Oddworld Inhabitants closed its internal development studio in 2005, but through its symbiotic bond with Just Add Water the games have been back in development the last few years, which is great news for people like me who grew up playing Oddworld. Along with the Oddworld series Just Add Water has also produced Gravity Crash, a classic video game shoot ‘em up combined with next generation visuals targeting both core and new players.

I recently worked with the games art students as a concept artist, creating assets and environments for them to model. I really enjoyed this task and I imagine recreating and expanding upon the Oddworld universe could be just as fun for Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water.

I always found the games really immersive with a fantastic moral ideology of the underdog worker versus the profiteering capitalists. The whole look of Abe’s Oddesy was very different to everything on the market at the time of its release in 1997 and Abe became one of the unofficial mascots of the Playstation 1. Now in 2014 I don’t think there is anything quite like Oddworld, and the new stills look strikingly different, through design and colour pallet, to other games in the current market. I hope everyone is just as excited as me, and if you want to see how the games coming along please visit www.oddworld.com, or to check out the company that’s currently developing it visit Just Add Waters website at www.jawltd.com.

Whitby Digital Painting

I was asked to create a room that could have been built in the tower that used to exist on top of Whitby Abbey. The idea behind it was that it was a room that Dracula had built for himself in the tower before it had collapsed, using artistic licence and altering the time periods slightly. I created this room with that in mind being some where that Dracula could bring his victims that wasn't his bedroom, because that was to be in his crypt, but just a general living space. Theres a lot of improvement needed on this piece and I struggled with the perspective, but I did something out of my comfort zone which I have never done before and I'm fairly happy with the results. Hopefully this is the beginning of me getting back into digital painting...

Final Whitby Assets

These are the final assets I created for the Whitby projects. There are a variation of objects that could be found across the map and placed to add interest to the locations.

Whitby Tower Model

These are several views showing the final model I created using Google Sketchup to help me with my lighting and perspective for my photoshop paint up. I chose to use the top image for my final paint up as it incorporated three of the walls and the floor and ceiling. The model isn't fantastically made but it's the first time I have used Sketchup to create complicated windows etc.

Gun Designs

Here are a few guns I was asked to design that would be left over from battle. I thought they could be scattered across the miss en scene or possibly be guns that you could use within the story.

Candelabra Designs

Here are some of my quick Candelabra designs, I wanted to incorporate the gothic feel along with the idea of the church and Dracula, so I made several designs that could be used within the final game.

Business Card

This is the current business card I have recently designed it incorporates my logo and I'm fairly happy with it. Unfortunately this is only the front as I haven't had time to design the back so hopefully that will be up soon.

Marsh Area Assets

Whitby Abbey is often surrounded by a marshy bog. In many of the photos and illustrations throughout the years you can see there is often a body of water depicted at one side of the Abbey and the surroundings also fill up with water depending on the weather. I decided to draw a few things that could be found around the marsh area of the Abbey to add interest and believability to the setting.
